Weather

I know by now not to put too much stock in the weather hype around here for freezing rain and ice and snow.

But a little part of me believes that I might just get a day off work anyway. Hope springs eternal.

Unfortunately, that little part of me is now sitting in the corner with her blankie, crying her eyes out yet again. The rest of me is saying, "Told ya so" and sticking its tongue out.

I was at VDOT yesterday and all the guys were sitting in their trucks, motors rumbling, each truck filled with salt and sand, ready to roll. I wonder what they're doing now?

Back when I lived in Boston, there was an hilarious Dunkin Donuts commercial. It featured three guys, each in his own snowplow, drinking DD coffee. They are all giving each other the eye as well as keeping a close watch on the world in front of them. All of a sudden, the three of them see the same single snowflake fall from the sky and it's a chicken race for them to be the one to plow it. It was absolutely hilarious. I've looked for it on YouTube, but can't find it.

Every time Virginia gets weather hype, I remember that commercial. The dude at VDOT here in town wouldn't service my state car because they "have to prepare the trucks for the big storm". I think they're going to have a lot of free time on their hands.

Oh well. Maybe next time.

I remember many years ago, there was no call for snow. Jeff and I went to bed, and woke up the next morning and started getting ready for work. I happened to look out the window - he lived in the basement apartment in a house. So, his "apartment" was underground, except for the few windows high up.

I couldn't see out the window because of the snow. I open his door, and the snow is about a foot high outside the door. It was some crazy weather that came in overnight and left snow. So, we stayed home that day. But, we were mad, because we were already awake and showered and couldn't get back to sleep. And his apartment didn't have any food in it - typical bachelor!!
