I came down with a mean case of bronchitis/sinusitis/near-flu late last week, and -- wouldn't ya know it -- my PCP was away at a seminar ("Bilking The Gullible" -- entirely bankrolled for by Big Pharma). The 'partner' doctor at the facility is NOT in the HMO network.

So I asked if there was an urgent care facility covered ... there is none within a 50-mile radius of Savannah. Great.

The CSR's solution? Go to the ER.

Ummmmm, no. First of all, the copay is $100 for ER visits. Second, the cost would be astronomical (funny, but BCBS would pay that without question). Third, I wanted a doctor ASAP, but what I had wasn't life-threatening.

Instead I high-tailed down to a walk-in clinic just out of town. No insurance accepted -- flat fee of $60.00. I'd love to file that for partial reimbursement under the circumstances, but I'm sure BCBS would laugh in my face.

What we have is b-r-o-k-e-n. But not for the wealthy. And we all know that America is a banana republic by, of and for the filthy upper-class.

That's why we'll never have a universal system in this country.Talmadgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02398182312942014436noreply@blogger.com
